    It’s been debated many times whether Google’s algorithm includes Facebook and Twitter in their ranking. Google’s Head of the Webspam, Matt Cutts, has beeen asked, “Are Facebook and Twitter Signals part of the ranking algorithm? How much do they matter?” and the short answer is NO.

    I wrote a short blog post on our company blog about this last January, Facebook and Twitter are Not Part of Google Algorithm.

    In hindsight, though Social Media signals does not directly affect Search Engine Optimization (SEO), it has a huge effect on Search Engine Rankings Page (SERP).

    During last weekend’s event, Mozilla PH Social Media Series: Women in Social Media, I was able to discuss about ‘Dominating Search Results through Social Media’ and came up with 3 important factors to which Social Media affects SERP, A-B-C.

    AUTHORITY
    Google trusts the social media sites. When optimized properly, social sites dominate the first page of Google results.

    Your profile photo is your logo and your bio is your description.

    I can go on for more but the bottom line would always lead to a conclusion: It is important to optimize your social media profiles. Be it a personal profile for personal branding or business page for business branding.
